Dead at midnight

As my eyelids slowly lift from last nights slumber
i lay and ponder, what would happen if today
i died at midnight;
would my friends treat me with love and admiration
or would it just be another day ducking the spray,
looking for an easy quick lay;

as i wake from last nights slumber
i lay and wonder where has the years gone;
seems like just yesterday i loved to go outside
and play with friends;
i thought i would never tuck tail and bail or
turn snitch and bitc#, but the game has switched;
I'm old and full of life experience,
what happened to the zest of my spirit,
the essence of my presence's zeal,
the source of my undetermined course;
i guess i fail short;
it's closer to midnight, my final flight,
destine for the ride, never had to swallow my pride,
but tonights the 1st and only time;
too far away to visit my mom for a last goodbye;
so I'll return one day while she slumbers to explain
why i was slain in these streets, didn't intend
to cause you grief and sorrow,
all i wanted was for your days to be blessed with
better tomorrows....

instead i feed the beast that burned inside of me
it consumed my anatomy until only my soul remained

now it's midnight;
time to embrace the light

and journey into my final flight!
